In the world today, many mistakes have landed us to beautiful innovations and inventions. Not only by trying and retrying something new do we have great ideas, experiences and results but also in some less regarded attitudes, behaviours and some acts.
Sometimes we learn or make observations by carelessly doing things we didn’t expect or have less value for. Example, a child who is left alone in the sitting room might decide to walk around the building in search of the mother or a guardian, he gets to the parlour and make a shout; when he hears an echo of his voice, he first wonders who replied and when he makes the shout over again it becomes obvious to him that something of such exists right in that particular room. Check him out the next day, he will be in the parlour enjoying the echo of his voice. The story of how fire ? came into existence centuries ago is a very good example for the illustration of this very piece. Some of these innovations can be useful as remedies, conservation, guide and guard purposes.
Here are some simple and useful remedies to some hitches encountered in our day to day activities…
•To Avoid Tears While Cutting onions, Chew Gum: When an onion is cut, a chemical is released into the air. It irritates the lachrymal glands, causing them to excrete tears. Chewing gum while cutting onions prevents tears by forcing you to breathe through your mouth. Chewing gum before, during or after cutting onions promotes production of saliva. When chewing gum, you diffuse the odors that make you cry and you breathe through your mouth, so the chemicals don’t make it to your nasal cavity. By chewing gum, you are stopping any irritants from going up your nose, so the glands don’t get frustrated. So chew away.
•To Make Banana Fresh For 3-5 days Longer, Wrap the Crown Stem With Plastic Wrap: Keep Bananas Fresh Longer Using Plastic Cling Wrap. Do you never finish a bunch of bananas before one or two are too brown for your taste? Slow down the ripening process by wrapping a piece of plastic cling wrap around the crown of the banana bunch. Wrapping the stems (the crown) in plastic wrap prevents the escape of ethylene from the stems. It also prevents evaporation of moisture and absorption of ethylene released by fruits nearby, to some extent. You can place some tape over the plastic wrap. If you want, you can wrap the stems with foil. Every time you remove a banana from the bunch, you will have to wrap it back again carefully. This will help keep them fresh for longer.
•Get Rid Of Garlic Odour By Rubbing Your Hand Against Stainless Steel: Try your stainless steel kitchen sink or faucet — just hold your hands under cold running water while rubbing the stainless steel for 10 seconds. Voila, the smell will be gone. Not surprisingly, it all has to do with the chemistry of garlic and stainless steel. Garlic contains molecules with sulfur.
• To Remove Chewing Gum From Cloth, Keep The Cloth In A Freezer: To remove gum from clothes, put the clothes in a sealable freezer bag and freeze them for 2-3 hours. Then, use a knife to scrape the frozen gum off. You can also dip the clothes in boiling hot water and then scrape the gum off with a knife.
• Pinch Yourself If You Can’t Just Stop Laughing: If you get the urge to laugh at a bad time, calm yourself down by thinking of something sad or even scary. Distract yourself by discreetly pinching your arm or biting your lip, inner cheek or tongue. To cover a laugh, exhale completely and cough a bit.
• To Make The Mirror Shine, Clean With Sprite: Yes Sprite, just soak with a hand towel and wipe your mirror thoroughly; then have your shiny mirror back.
